Discover more about two of the most influential family palaces of the Florentine Renaissance with this Medici Villas Tour. You'll be amazed!
Medici Villas Tour
We'll meet at 9:45 am at the Santa Maria Novella station to board a minibus that will take us to discover two of Florence's palatial jewels.
Our first stop will be Villa La Petraia after a 20 minute journey and we'll give you an audio guide so that you can freely tour its various rooms and gardens. The building, like the many other villas that the Medici built in Tuscany, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Villa La Petraia, whose origin dates back to the 15th century, will surprise you with its lavish decoration. Frescoes, fountains, sculptures, paintings... Luxury everywhere in this old home of the most famous family of patrons of the Renaissance. Moreover, walking through the gardens you'll enjoy an incredible panoramic view of Florence.
Afterwards, we'll meet at the minibus to go to the nearby Villa Castello. This area was formerly occupied by a castellum, a building that received water from an aqueduct. Do you understand now where the name of the palace comes from?
The building currently houses the Accademia Della Crusca headquarters, one of the most prestigious linguistic institutions in Italy. Although it isn't possible to enter the building, you can enjoy walking through its gardens at your leisure.
The tour will end by arriving at the Santa Maria Novella station at 1:15 pm.
